Puberty rewires the brain.

Many children go through a complete brain re-wiring at puberty. Working with a child in this phase can feel like the kid's brain literally fell out on the road. Until the hormones and changes have progressed, academics may be really difficult, almost impossible. There is hope. After the rewiring process, if the child keeps hope alive (and doesn't condemn himself or herself as 'dumb'), academics will generally be much easier to do. The brain becomes more logical and also more emotional (weird, I know) but mainly more mature. Be alert; pay attention. Talk with your child, listen to their concerns and let them know you care. Keep trying but don't condemn. Inspire! When I'm doing my own studying and learning, trying new things and forgiving my own mistakes, my children are much more likely to do so, too.
