Super-intelligent butterflies
What if we're here on this earth because in heaven we were like a bunch of super-intelligent butterflies, flitting from thing to thing and taking forever to complete anything, because we'd have to focus on just one thing and that's, like, difficult, so why when there's so much else to do? The equivalent of toddlers.
What if the reason so many of us are being diagnosed with ADHD is because we're finally making headway on overcoming the purely physical constraints of mortality, so we have time to get distracted by the details?
One theory goes that successful rice paddy farmers make really hard workers, because survival farming rice demands great discipline. The area must be cleared and covered with clay, a wall covered with clay around it, drainage prepared so it will hold enough water to keep the rice wet and not enough to drown the plants. It must be planted and weeded and cared for over and over again as the rice grows, and then must be harvested, the grains dried and polished so they don't go bad, and then stored in dry closed containers away from mice and insects.
I live in a house with automatic heating and cooling, electric lights and machines to wash and dry clothes, preheated water for washing dishes and cooking, a microwave, stove, oven, pressure cooker, hand mixer, whisk, bottle brush; I have a van that takes me wherever I decide to go at a moment's notice. If I don't want to cook today, I don't have to. I can open a can or open the freezer. I can look up the answer to any question I might ask. I don't have to struggle to do most things.
Why is the Lord allowing this? What's his purpose in allowing us to progress this far in meeting our physical needs? Is it not so we can focus instead on meeting our mental and spiritual needs by helping each other?
