I remember reading a science fiction book about the growth of children with supernormal powers; their father was enormously talented but their mother did not have superpowers. She is very supportive of her family, and does a great job of teaching them a combination of humility and service and determination, though the story isn't really about her. At the end, though, as she and her husband are together, we find out that her real superpower is in genetic manipulation; she has ensured that each of her children has superpowers because she has arranged their genetics to determine it. I feel this is an empowering thought: I'm making a world of difference in the lives of my descendants, just by being the prayerful, humble, learning, scripture reading and commandment following person that I'm trying to become. I love the reminder that I AM having a positive effect, even when the only obvious result is that my daughter has been cleaned off. She feels better, and so do I.
