Favorite cookie

My current favorite cookie is a monster cookie: peanut butter oatmeal with M&Ms or chocolate chips, plus chopped nuts in them. They’re soft and chewy and absolutely delicious. A person could add raisins as well without hindering them. The peanut butter is a must, however. Oatmeal is good, and whole grain flour is good, but peanut butter is awesome!

My previous favorite was a recipe obtained from a Hershey’s chocolate chips package; it involved butter and shortening, peanut butter, flour, white sugar and brown sugar, a little vanilla and rising agent, and eggs. I used to make it often but hated taking the time to put each tray of fifteen cookies in the oven individually or even two pans at a time; it took so long! I have seven children; besides, my husband and I could eat a lot of cookies ourselves. So I put all the batter in a cookie sheet with a one-inch lip all round, and baked the entire thing at once. Another time I accidentally made it with all whole wheat flour, which led to a hard cookie that had to be cut while soft or you’d have to break it up. But wow was it good in milk! Some days I ate the leftover cookies as breakfast cereal. It’s whole grain, right?

Mmm. I’m making myself hungry.
